Term Project Milestone 1

Brief Overview

This week, our group met to discuss the term project and brainstorm ideas. We had a Miro board in which we first worked on two mind maps. One was for brainstorming different art forms, and the other was for brainstorming ideas surrounding art galleries. We spent around ten minutes each per mind map. During this time, our group discussed what we were writing down and worked together to expand on ideas.

Mindmaps:

After the twenty minutes, we moved on to brainwriting. We had five questions that we had five minutes each to answer. During this time, we did individual brainstorming. Each group member had a separate section for their answers. Once this session was over, we used dot voting to highlight our liked

answers to further explore and discuss.

Brainwriting and further discussion:

Based on the answers/sticky notes that we liked, we started branching off from those ideas. We elaborated on answers for four of the five questions, excluding the one about accessibility, because all of those were already descriptive. The white sticky notes are the new ideas.

What I contributed to the brainstorm:

I will mention one sticky note from each question that my group liked.

Q1: See a timelapse of how a painting came to be

Q2: An unlimited amount of art pieces (not limited by building space)

Q3: Write on sticky notes and stick them around the gallery (like tabbing a book) and other players can see the sticky notes

Q4: Have dedicated rooms/exhibits for specific artists

Q5: A light and dark mode for the UI or the gallery itself

Challenges

Since we still haven’t discussed the project with the client ArtEngine, we had to be more general with our ideas. It was also difficult to come up with ideas that we would actually incorporate into our project since the exact project domain is unknown.

Successes

We were able to come up with many ideas that we were interested in for our VR experience. We had good discussions surrounding the project, and everyone was able to include their ideas into the brainstorming. We also discussed some possible themes and focuses we had for the gallery, but nothing was finalized.

Number of hours spent on the project

One hour and 15 minutes was spent on this brainstorming session.
