Term Project Milestone 4

  

Brief Overview:

Our work this week was mostly focused on the project proposal and Alpha presentation. We met a few times during the week to divide the work for the proposal, work on the proposal together, divide the parts for the Alpha presentation, and practice our presentation.

We also planned to not work much or have to complete anything during reading week. In our high-level development plan, we planned to start working on the models and environments during Milestone 5.

This week, I worked on various parts of the project proposal and the Alpha presentation. The team worked on the written parts of the proposal together, and individually I worked on the wireframes for the Gamma Environment and the Alpha Environment. For the presentation, I worked on the script and presentation for learned challenges and changes since our initial idea.

This week's sprints' hours and statuses updated

This week we:

• Worked on and finished the project proposal
• Each team member worked on their individual assigned sections, for me it was the wireframes for two of the environments
• Finished writing the pitch and working on the high-level development plan together as a team
• Worked on, practiced, finished, and presented the Alpha presentation
• Creating the slideshow
• Individually working on the assignment presentation section
• Writing for the topic section, creating the slides for that section, and practicing presenting that section

During the following week, we plan on:

• Add portals with CirclesXR to all the brainwave environments
• Start implementation of interactions in the main room and a few environments
• Start modelling and texturing assets for the four environments
• Potentially create nav meshes for the environments, depending on how much work is done with modelling the environments
• Start building the environments in Aframe, putting in finished models into the scene
• Start creating sounds and music for the experience

Individually, I will be working on:

• Creating assets and building the environment for the Delta environment as well as potentially making a nav meshes

Challenges:

One challenge we had was the amount of schoolwork assigned during our reading week, making us focus on other courses and assignments instead of working on the term project. Another minor problem we encountered was when we worked on the proposal, specifically on the Gantt chart for the high-level development plan. After we finished assigning and dating all the tasks, we were ready to put it into our proposal document, but, since we created it in another program, we realized that in was unreadable when we exported the images and put them in. Working on adjusting the formatting of the Gantt chart and then testing how it would fit and look in our document was difficult and tedious and took more time than expected.

Successes:

Even though we were unable to make lots of progress during reading week, in our high-level-development plan, we planned to not do a lot of work during the reading week. Moving forward, this means we are still on track with our plan.

While working on our proposal and presentation, we didn’t encounter any challenges as the work was well-divided, team members worked on and finished their portions on-time, and we had various meetings to discuss and work on both assignments as a group.

Number of hours spent on the project:

Four hours and 30 minutes was spent during the group meeting, and I spent eight hours working on the wireframes/storyboards.
